Executive Summary
In a groundbreaking effort to achieve academic excellence in Nigeria’s education sector, Passion for Peace Initiative (PPI) launched the Illumination Programme. This comprehensive initiative brings together stakeholders from across different states to tackle pressing challenges in education, with Kwara State as the flagship location and now Lagos State as the latest expansion.
PPI has identified several critical issues affecting education in Nigeria, including: Lack of quality education and outdated teaching methods, Examination malpractices affecting academic integrity, Inadequate cognitive and infrastructural facilities, Limited teachers’ training and professional development, Scarcity of resources, – leading to low academic achievement and incompetent graduates.
According to Ambassador George Olalekan Jimoh, the Convener: “We have seen more mortality in our hospitals, more buildings collapse, and several cases of incompetence among our graduates. Addressing these challenges in our education system is the only way to change these narratives.”
Thus, the Illumination Programme was designed to bring about a systemic change through a collaborative and pragmatic approach.

The Lagos Edition of the Illumination Programme commenced with the selection of five (5) schools in Education District III, namely: Dolphin Senior High School, Ebute Elefun Senior High School, Epetedo Senior High School, Boys’ Senior Academy, and Girls’ Senior Academy. These schools were actively represented by their teachers, students, and education stakeholders, demonstrating a strong commitment to academic excellence and mentorship.
The Ministry of Education has structured the programme into four (4) phases, with the successful launch held on Monday, 12th May 2025. The next phases will take place in: September 2025, November 2025, and January 2026 respectively. This structured approach ensures continuous engagement and long-term impact, allowing for deeper mentorship and educational transformation.
As part of its commitment to support academic excellence, Passion for Peace Initiative (PPI) will be honoring exceptional students with scholarships to fund their registration for NECO, JAMB, and POST UTME exams.
Notably, during the just-concluded May edition, two outstanding students were awarded cash prizes of Ten Thousand Naira (₦10,000) each: Ms. Joshua Dorcas (Ebute Elefun Senior High School) and Ms. Ismail Shakeerah (Girls’ Senior Academy). This recognition highlights the importance of hard work, discipline, and excellence, further motivating students to aspire toward academic success.
Our Guest Speaker, Engr. Tunde Jimoh, made an open call for mentorship, specifically supporting students interested in Engineering and Tech careers. His announcement sets the stage for future guidance and professional development opportunities.
Additionally, it was unanimously agreed that students under the supervision of their Guidance and Counselling teachers should go back to their respective schools to establish “Illumination Mentorship Clubs”. These clubs will serve as platforms for peer learning, leadership training, and academic motivation, ensuring that the programme’s impact extends beyond the event itself.
Keynote and Guest Speakers
The programme featured two global figures as speakers:
Both speakers employed real-life experiences to convey their messages, creating a dynamic learning environment for students and attendees.
